McCain Ladies Surprise Country With Gay Marriage Support

January 22, 2010

U.S. (ChattahBox) – In a move that has caused a number of raised eyebrows, Cindy and Meghan McCain, the wife and daughter of Senator John McCain, have posed for the website and gay rights group NOH8.

The photos and support put them in direct opposition with Senator McCain and policies of the Republican party, and show the vast change in direction that many more moderate members have taken in recent years.

The appearance of the two women at the NOH8 shoot was shocking for the photographers, especially of Cindy McCain, who has shown a streak of defiance for the beliefs of her husband.

“We were shocked,” Adam Bousk, the photographer who did Cindy said. “We were in the studio from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. together, so it was really clear she understood [the issue].”

The photographer also said that John might be singing a different tune on gay marriage as well.

“Um, I got that impression. I don’t know that I should speak much about it, but I definitely got that impression.”

McCain denies this, and says that he still supports the controversial Proposition 8.

But the Senator’s years in politics have been riddled with confusing and sudden shifts in beliefs, policies, and platforms, including a sudden shift from Moderate to extreme Conservative during the past election.

Maybe we can see his next back flip on this issue soon.

Additionally, all summer long I officiated for couples coming to CT to wed from all across the country, many of whom have been together for 20, 30 and 40 years! In the 21st century it’s simply a question of fairness.

Civil rights and civil marriages shouldn’t be put up for popular votes in America.

Is it just possible that Meghan is gay and this has caused the sudden flip in the McCain family?

Equality is not about the popular vote. Minorities deserve marriage equality. Would you lobby against interracial marriage? Many of our grandparents did. Today we wouldn’t tolerate it. It would violate civil rights.

Who cares if Meghan is gay? Look at Cheney’s daughter, who is openly gay but doesn’t speak out. Is it possible Cheney put the gag order on her? Either you care enough about civil rights to speak your mind, or you don’t.

Finally, for the “sanctity of marriage’ folks: your religion is your choice, but don’t assume that yours is the ultimate truth. There are many religions that don’t follow the rules of your bible. You wouldn’t try to pass a law prohibiting US citizens from taking the lord’s name in vein, would you? Of course not. So don’t tell people who they can marry.
