GOP Sen Inhofe’s Global Warming Denial a Family Affair

February 10, 2010

(ChattahBox)— The record-breaking “snowmageddon” that has paralyzed the mid-Atlantic region, causing power outages, and the deaths of several people, has become fodder for global warming denying Republicans who have pointed to the snowstorm as proof that climate change does not exist. Despite the fact that short-term changes in weather have no bearing on the science of climate change, Republicans are not about to allow reality to get in the way of their nonsensical claims. And the family of Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK), one of the most rabid climate change deniers in Congress, decided to build an igloo on the National Mall and call it “Al Gore’s New Home,” to draw attention to their belief that the snowstorm invalidates decades worth of climate change science.

In fact, 2000-2009 was the warmest decade on record. And this past January was the warmest January on record worldwide.

Sen. Inhofe’s daughter Molly Rapert; her husband, Jimmy; and their four children built the large igloo apparently to engage in a fun-filled anti-science and global warming denying family activity. According to the account reported by Think Progress:

“They officially dedicated the humble abode in honor of global-warming crusader Gore, even posting a cardboard sign on the igloo’s roof reading “AL GORE’S NEW HOME” on one side and “HONK IF YOU [HEART] GLOBAL WARMING” on the other. Inhofe, the ranking member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, is famously one of Congress’ most vocal critics of global warming. And he told HOH that he found his family’s ironic tribute to Gore — which came during one of Washington’s snowiest winters on record — “really humorous.”

As noted by Media Matters, the family of the Oklahoma Republican are not alone in their mocking of a killer snowstorm as a basis to deny the science of climate change. The offensive right-wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh weighed in, saying It’s “absurd” that the Obama administration proposed a global warming agency amidst “record-setting cold weather.”

And the dim Gretchen Carlson of Fox & Friends remarked on the “dichotomy” created by “big snowstorms” occurring while “the Obama administration [is] talking about creating a new federal office to study global warming.”

Morons. “Global warming” is verbal shorthand for “severe changes in both hot and cold temperatures across the board.” We can reasonably expect even WORSE Winers (and hotter Summers) for the rest of our natural lives.

My greatest hope is the jerkoffs like Inhofe will freeze to death before June.

Global Warming may be caused by sun spots, changes in earth’s magnetic field, etc., but I do not believe it is caused by carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide. Maybe it is caused by our reductions in sulpher dioxide which caused carbon to fall out of the atmosphere as acid rain?? The North Pole is melting, but not the South Pole, explain that. A single volcano a few years ago put out more gases into the atmosphere than all of mankind throughout history. Actually, since 1998 the world has cooled off for whatever reason. Corresponds with reduction in sun spots. Sun spots are picking up again, although late in their 11 year cycle, so sun spots are more causitive than CO2.

If there was global warming, big if, wouldn’t that make Canada and Siberia more fertile for farming? If we melted the North Pole wouldn’t that mean more rain in our deserts? Mammoths used to roam northern Canada and Siberia before the industrial age…then they got quick frozen. What caused the Global Warming between 900 and 1300 AD? It was too hot for wine in France, but fine in Denmark. Explain again how we are causing Global Warming.

This criticism of Sen Inhofe for building a snow house with his family is the real joke here. Let’s all go join the Inhofes in laughing at the concept of Global Warming.

global warming does not exist. If the earth 4.5 billion years old or maybe less and we have 200 years of accurate weather/temperature data, we certainly do
not have enough information to predict accurately what temperature trends
are doing. The people who came up with global warming have used it to get
rich (Al Gore) or use it as an excuse to tax us more (carbon footprint). There are
simply cycles of higher and lower temperatures. If you check, you will find that
there was a global cooling scare in the 1970’s. Even the scientists who supposedly discovered global warming are admitting they massaged the numbers to support global warming. Read State of Fear by Michal Crighton
for some additional analysis that is well presented.

Seriously! I am so tired of people that refuse to read SIMPLE stats and statistics based on the fact that the “other” party was more involved first in the issue. Really? Really? Do you wish to be this stupid? Really? Holy god! I cannot believe the stupidity and sick behavior. I suppose it will be a matter of “survival of the fittest”? The stubborn science denying people will just go away…….hummmmmmmmm, cocktails anyone? 😀

    Tom Foster,
Michael Crichton’s book “State of Fear” is actually a fabulous book but, fictional. How sad my friend, that you took this a truth. Wow. This is why I suppose there is a big gap in people that UNDERSTAND global warming and people who do not. Lets look up the term “fiction” and go from there.
Also, surgeons make good money fixing problems most of us do not know much about. Does this make him a person making up stuff to make money? Lets be realistic. There is a problem…..people pay money to solve the problem. Its called ECONOMY. ECONOMY, really simple. What job do you do? Does it solve a problem? Does it mean the problem does not exist because you solve the problem?
    Logic, where did you go????

It is true that the plot of State of Fear is fictional. However, Crichton cites all his sources and they are all credible (unlike the “scientists” that run the data models). Crichton uses the plot and characters as a delivery mechanism to help expose the junk science and political agenda surrounding the Anthropogenic Global Warming hoax. When you read the book, did you not notice the large appendix in the back? These are used by researchers (Crichton was a World renowned researcher) to credit other people’s research, writing or other forms of work. If you want to debunk the science that Crichton refers to in the appendix, maybe you should do that to make your points, otherwise you are just proving ours by not citing real scientific evidence. Can you say East Anglia?
