Casey Anthony Wants Tax Payers To Aid In Defense Costs

March 7, 2010

Florida (ChattahBox) – Casey Anthony, who is awaiting trial under suspicion that she murdered her toddler Caylee, has filed a motion for state aid in paying her defense costs.

Anthony’s attorneys have requested that a percentage be covered by the state by declaring her indigent.

So far, Anthony has paid $111,954 to Jose Baez and Andrea Lyon. More than $90,000 of that has gone to Baez, and the rest to Lyon for expenses, though the death penalty expert is working for free.

With the death penalty back on the table if Anthony is convicted in her daughter’s death, Baez is arguing that the 23-year-old will be unable to pay the hundreds of thousands of dollars that a defense would require.

If the declaration is granted, taxpayers will be footing the bill, with the money coming from the $14 million currently in budget for those who cannot afford their own defense.

If this woman is receiving the taxpayer’s money, she should be getting a public defender! I express my sympathy for Florida taxpayers. I have been following this case very closely, as I hope justice is served. But I have also been paying attention to the defamation lawsuit. Although this case has taken a backseat in the media because of this trial, I still find it interesting. If you haven’t heard about it, I suggest visiting the Morgan and Morgan website which has videos and information on the case.
