‘Balloon Boy’ Dad Ordered To Pay Restitution For Hoax

April 21, 2010

(ChattahBox) – Richard Heene, father of the infamous ‘Balloon Boy’, has been ordered to pay $36,000 in restitution.

Heene and his wife Mayumi created a hoax, telling authorities that their son, Falcon, had made his way into a makeshift balloon and had taken off.

The story led to a massive rescue attempt that included the National Guard, and sparked a media frenzy.

Later, Falcon was found hiding in the attic, and over the following days it became clear that his parents had done the whole thing in an attempt to get their own reality show.

The two had already released a bizarre set of science videos, and had been on the television shop WifeSwap.

Heene has recently been released from his 90-day jail sentence, and has been given 4 years of probation. His wife, also on probation, is serving in a mandatory work program on weekends for 20 days.
