Fla. GOP Unloads Crist Portrait for $7,700 on eBay

May 12, 2010

(ChattahBox)—The Republican Party of Florida does not handle break ups well. Within hours of Governor Charlie Christ’s announcement that he was leaving the Republican Party to run for the U.S. Senate, as an Independent, all mention of Christ was scrubbed from the Party’s website. And a signed portrait of Christ was promptly put on eBay. Today the Party announced that a bidder paid $7,700 for the masterpiece.

In a recent fundraising letter, the Florida GOP referred to Christ’s defection from the Party, as a “sordid legacy”

The Florida Republican Party continued to slam Crist even on eBay, charging the governor with sullying the party’s “public stature and financial stability.”

The painting that once hung on the wall of the Party’s Tallahassee headquarters, was purchased by an unidentified registered Republican.
