Geometry Teacher Demonstrates Angles to Assassinate Obama

May 18, 2010

(ChattahBox)— I have a feeling this story is not over. A high school geometry teacher in a rural county of Alabama used the example of assassinating President Obama to instruct his students on angles. His murderous teaching example made it to the local Secret Service office and the unnamed teacher was paid an official visit, but no charges were filed.

The male geometry teacher works at Corner High School in Jefferson County. The Secret Service agents did not find that the teacher posed a threat to the President and the matter was dropped without an arrest, according to a report by the Birmingham News.

“We did not find a credible threat,” Roy Sexton, of Birmingham’s Secret Service office, told the Birmingham News. “As far as the Secret Service is concerned, we looked into it, we talked to the gentleman and we have closed our investigation.”

An additional report, described the teacher instructing students where they needed to stand, to shoot President Obama:

“The teacher was apparently teaching his geometry students about parallel lines and angles, officials said. He used the example of where to stand and aim if shooting Obama. “He was talking about angles and said, ‘If you’re in this building, you would need to take this angle to shoot the president,’ “ said Joseph Brown, a senior in the geometry class.”

Apparently, talk of shooting the President of the United States, is not worthy of a suspension in Alabama. The geometry teacher in question, is still at work in the classroom and will not be disciplined.

Superintendent Phil Hammonds, said he planned to give the teacher a stern talking to. We are going to have a long conversation with him about what’s appropriate,” “It was extremely poor judgment on his part, and a poor choice of words,” said Hammonds.

Hmm, call me crazy but if a teacher makes a threat towards the President of the United States in a classroom, which necessitates a visit from the Secret Service, I would think disciplinary action is in order.

I am a student at corner high school and this teacher happens to be one of mine this year, the circumstances were taken to seriousely and the teacher did not mean any harm for saying this he is a very good man and an amazing teacher

Thank you for your comment. It’s good to know he is an “amazing” teacher. I do understand how difficult it must be to explain geometry to a bunch of students having Spring Fever, who would rather be anywhere than in a high school math class, but his comparison was disturbing.

Why would someone even think about the assassination of the President of the United States, never mind using the scenario as a student lesson plan? Instructing students on the proper angle to successfully shoot and kill our President is beyond the pale.

In our current toxic political climate, such irresponsible and dangerous talk is despicable.

Haha, how rediculous. A teacher makes a harmless joke to teach his students and you think this warrants “disciplinary action”

It isn’t harmless to validate the viewpoint that murdering the president is considerable. To think that the only harmful result of this would be actually murdering the president is mindless. Even if this had been an unspecified murder it’s wildly inappropriate for any high school classroom except criminal behavior, much less geometry. It wasn’t necessary for any benefit to his lesson and the choice and judgement absolutely should be a matter of discipline including termination. The only way to think otherwise is to display a crass disregard for leadership behavior.

for that teacher to use the president as an example for his misdirected example,is despicable.but whats even more disturbing is the lack of seriousness by the school system.alabamas racist past is widely known.a stunt like this hearkens back to those past unfortunate.

OK, I’m eating an apple and pretending it’s the predient’s head; think I need to be arrested and that I deserve to be “disciplined”?

Mogwai – It is idiots like you lower the IQ of this country. Not only that, but you make the world a little bit more depressing and difficult to live in, with your acceptance of ignorant violence. I hope for the sake of the planet that you choose not to breed.

People are so ignorant these days. The comment the teacher made was unacceptable regardless if it was meant as a joke or not. The act of killing should be left out of school period. Schools are a place of education, were kids go to try and better themselves, there not going to learn to be trained hitman. I believe that a suspension is required to set an example. If others see that this teacher got away with this outrageuos comment, with no punishment. What will hold them back from doing the same. People need to put themselves in others shoes. If the example was used towards the almighty WHITE pope that teacher would have been sentenced to life….SMH. DAM* SHAME

Sounds like the teacher has the right ideal. Maybe he is recruting a future savior of america and what better way to train than to give all the information needed to pull this off.
I say way to go. Should become a standard in teaching.

    Good job teach.

Anyone who supports the action of this teacher is an idiot. Plain and simple. They would have been just as much of an idiot if they demonstrated this with any other president. You people who are saying “good job” are what is wrong with this country. Disgusting…
