14-Year-Old Shot By Border Agent, Investigation Pending

June 8, 2010

U.S. (ChattahBox) – A 14-year-old boy has been shot and killed by a border patrol agent , in the latest incident that shows the desperate need for immigration reform and clear policy in this country.

Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereca was playing with other boys on the Mexican side of the border when an agent allegedly shot him in the head.

The shooting is described as unprovoked, with none of the teens being armed, or showing any aggression to the agents. The Mexican government also described his size as small and not intimidating.

It isn’t clear why the agent shot, but officials in Ciudad Juarez have accused the unnamed border patrolman of acting with undue hostility.

This is the second death of a Mexican citizen this month, after a man was stunned to death with a stun gun on June 2nd by border agents. An official statement released stated that 32-year-old Anastasio Hernandez had become combative when agents prepared to hand him over to the Mexican government, after entering the country illegally.

Maybe the boy gave the officer a dirty look.

Seriously, how is the unprovoked (or slightly provoked) shooting on a young, unarmed boy – if that indeed is what happened – be an indication of “the desperate need for immigration reform and clear policy in this country”. Again, if those are the facts, this sounds more like a case of murder. Or, as it says above, “acting with undue hostility” (I’d say shooting a boy in the head is at least that).
We certainly need immigration reform, but how would it keep a bad officer from behaving badly? – unless reform includes more careful scrutiny of those we hire for those jobs.

Lucy – The process of clearer checks for border guards is part of. Clear indication of when it is appropriate to use force is another. Making frequent checks on the mental health and possible biases of guards is yet another. Establishing a more positive and efficient policy for immigration that reduces illegal status, and promotes a non-violent method of deportation, and dealing with crossing, ect. ect. See the pattern?

A major overhaul is needed, and instances like this would be reduced with immigration reform. That is part of the reform itself. Border deaths are actually tragically common, and quite often the person killed is unarmed. Something needs to be done.

We can expect tensions to escalate between freedom-loving people (domestically and abroad) and the fascist US police state.

It will soon be time for everyone to choose between the current system (liberal-fascist democratic capitalism) which is failing as we speak and proving unfit for guaranteeing the well-being and survival of all (and the planet), or turn to a radically new stage – Communism!

Let’s pick up where Mao left off – No to the Bourgeoisie and their police! No to capitalist white-supremacist heteropatriarchy! No to oppression and No to killing children! Enough is enough goddammit!

Joe the Red – Hm…you do know that extremes on either side are what destroys culture, don’t you? And it is those that point fingers at those extremes from either side that ruin what could be a wonderful step in society? People like you are a parody of themselves.
