CNN Allows Graham to Say: Obama ‘Was Born a Muslim,’ He Holds ‘Seed Of Islam’

August 20, 2010

(ChattahBox)—A Pew Research Center poll released this week, found a stunning increase, since President Obama took office, of the number of Americans who wrongly believe our president is a secret Muslim. Nearly one in five people now say Obama is a Muslim and only 34 percent believe he’s Christian, down from 48 percent in the 2009 survey. The poll’s findings have drawn considerable media interest and the White House felt compelled to issue a statement reaffirming the President’s Christian faith. Americans seem to be more eager than ever, to believe wild conspiracy theories as fact. And there is no doubt, the right-wing media is largely responsible for misinforming the public, because sixty percent of those polled said they learned, wrongly that Obama is a Muslim from the media.

Against this backdrop, CNN’s John King invited Rev. Billy Graham’s son, Franklin Graham, an extreme Christian evangelist and missionary, to appear on his program to discuss the Pew survey.

Now, why would John King and CNN’s bookers schedule Graham to speak about Obama’s faith, of all people? It’s no secret that Frank Graham is virulently anti-Islam. He has been spewing Islamophobia, since the terrorist attacks of 9/11. He has called Islam a “very evil and wicked religion.”

He told CNN’s Campbell Brown in December that Islam could not be practiced in America, because “You can’t beat your wife. You cannot murder your children if you think they’ve committed adultery or something like that, which they do practice in these other countries.”

And Graham not only has a problem with Muslims, he also refuses to recognize practicing Catholics or mainline Protestants, as true Christians. Graham believes only fundamentalist born-again Christians are the true believers whom will receive salvation.

Graham also has an ax to grind with President Obama. He blames Obama for not stepping in to re-invite him to the Pentagon’s National Day of Prayer event, this past spring, after the Pentagon disinvited Graham for his controversial attacks against the Muslim faith, as “evil.” Graham’s rescinded invitation resulted in a right-wing Christian freak out, and he appeared on CBN to rail against a “couple of Muslims” complaining about his attacks on the Islam faith.

“I think it is a put down, because there seems to be that Islam gets a pass, that a couple of Muslims complain about a Christian event at the Pentagon, when there’s been Christian events at the Pentagon for years, he said.”

Graham also gave an interview to USA Today, wherein he slammed President Obama for being “soft on Islam,” and declared that if the President did not intercede with the Pentagon to restore his prayer invitation, “it will be a slap in the face of all Christians.” Graham threatened he would show up in the Pentagon parking lot to pray anyways, if his invitation was not restored. It wasn’t, and he did.

Graham also accused Obama of favoring black pastors, as opposed to true Christian preachers like himself.

“He also said Obama pays attention only to black charismatic and Pentecostal pastors, such as his spiritual adviser, Joshua Dubois. Dubois heads the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, which has dozens of advisers from a wide spectrum of denominations.” […]

“The president is a committed Christian who is proud of his engagement with people of faith,” White House spokesman Shin Inouye said Tuesday.”

“Still, Graham said, he “warned” Dubois that Obama is losing millions of “mainstream evangelicals” because he appears to be “soft on Islam” and he doesn’t stand up for the “rights of the historic Christian majority.”

So, in the wake of a disturbing national discussion about a growing number of Americans wrongly believing our President is a Muslim—who does CNN and John King decide to bring on? Rev. Franklin Graham, a radical fundamentalist who thinks Muslims are evil, and who holds an extremely narrow standard regarding “true” Christians. Hmm, guess what he said about Obama?

Graham was true to form, as CNN and King surely counted on. Graham sneered, while viciously, saying that President Obama caries “the seed of Islam” and declared he “was born a Muslim.”

And when asked if he believed President Obama was a Christian, he parsed his words, saying “So I just have to believe that the president is what he has said.”

Surely, you would think John King pushed backed against Graham’s offensive insinuations about President Obama, right? Not a chance. King went on to ask Graham if he “believed” Obama when he says he is a Christian, suggesting that Obama is lying about his faith. After this disgusting moment in television, it’s apparent that not only the right-wing media is responsible for a growing number of Americans wrongly concluding that Obama is a Muslim. CNN is just as guilty.

“I think the president’s problem is that he was born a Muslim, his father was a Muslim. The seed of Islam is passed through the father like the seed of Judaism is passed through the mother. He was born a Muslim, his father gave him an Islamic name,” Graham told John King. “Now it’s obvious that the president has renounced the prophet Mohammed and he has renounced Islam and he has accepted Jesus Christ. That’s what he says he has done, I cannot say that he hasn’t. So I just have to believe that the president is what he has said.”

Note to Graham, Obama NEVER renounced Mohammed, because he was NOT raised a Muslim. Graham continued in this vein, also taking the time to link Obama to a corrupt, murderous dictator.

“The confusion is, is because his father was a Muslim, he was born a Muslim. The Islamic world sees the president as one of theirs. That’s why Gaddafi calls him ‘my son.’ They see him as a Muslim. But of course the President says he is a Christian, and we just have to accept it as that.”

King brought up Obama’s recent visit with both Franklin and his father Rev. Billy Graham, in which the President prayed with the two evangelicals. The CNN host essentially asked Graham if Obama showed any signs of his evil Muslim seed, during the visit.

“Well, you know, you can be born a Muslim, you can be born a Jew, but you can’t be born a Christian,” said Graham. “The only way you can become a Christian is by confessing your sins to God, asking his forgiveness, and by receiving Jesus Christ by faith into your heart, that Christ died for your sins, shed his blood on Calvary’s Cross, and that God raised him to life. If you’re willing to accept that and believe that, and let Jesus Christ be the lord of your life, God will forgive your sins, he will heal your heart, and that’s the only way you can become a Christian. And so if the President has done that, then I would say he’s a Christian, if that’s what he has done.”

As noted by Talking Points Memo, Obama’s father was not a part of his life, despite passing on his evil Muslim seed.

“For the record, Obama’s father was Barack Hussein Obama, who gave the future president his own name. President Obama has written that his father, who he rarely ever saw, was raised a Muslim but was in practice an atheist.”

Truly a despicable, vicious and bigoted display by Rev. Frank Graham. And John King and CNN, shame on you.
