Sex Offender Gets 20 Years For Obama Threat Anthrax Hoax

August 24, 2010

US (ChattahBox) – A 63-year-old sex offender has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for perpetrating an anthrax hoax, which included threatening letters to President Barack Obama and the Social Security Administration.

Timothy Cloud pleaded guilty back in May to several criminal offenses, including sending threatening letters to federal buildings, threatening the president, creating a hoax to look like he was sending anthrax, and failing to register as a sex offender for a sex crime in Texas.

He was convicted of a sex attack on a 7-year-old boy, according to the Texas Sex Offender Registry.

He has been given 20 years in prison for the hoax, which included letters to Social Security Administration offices in three states, which said phrases like “You stole my money” and “die”, along with a white powder.

Now, the guy is obviously scum. He is a child molester, a criminal, and an idiot. He also seems insane. Am I the only one who is surprised by the 20 year sentence?

Not that I am saying he doesn’t deserve to be behind bars, but I can’t be the only person to see a serious discrepancy between the punishment for sexually abusing a small child, and sending some hostile, but otherwise non-fatal, letters.

Texas has some very odd views on various laws; for example, all patents are assumed to be valid by the Eastern District of Texas courts, even when they clearly fail both the “obviousness” and “prior art” tests. Drunk drivers are only sent to prison if they kill a judge’s family member while driving drunk, and usually get a suspended sentence no matter how many times they repeat the DUI offense.

The white-powder-and-threatening-letter ploy, however, COULD have killed someone if they had a weak heart.
