Bishop Eddie Long Faces Fourth Lawsuit, Stepping Down

September 25, 2010

Georgia (ChattahBox Crime News) – Bishop Eddie Long is once again facing allegations of sexually coercing an underage male, after the fourth young man filed charges against him in an Atlanta court.

Things are looking bad for the anti-gay Megachurch pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. A fourth lawsuit has been filed, with much the same details as the other three. Spencer LeGrande claims that he joined New Birth in 2005, at the age of 17. He says he was taken on a trip to Africa with Long, who said he was his new “dad.”

During the trip, he alleges that Long demanded that the teen visit the megachurch pastor in his room, because Long couldn’t sleep. Long gave LeGrande an Ambien – a prescription sleeping pill – and they engaged in sexual activity. He also said they went on a shopping spree. And LeGrande accompanied Long on a trip to South Africa.

LeGrande further alleges in his complaint, that the anti-gay pastor convinced him not to get a girlfriend, insisting that sex with Long would be a positive spiritual influence. The relationship, he claims, lasted until 2009.

Long has denied the allegations. However, he is planning to step down, from his megachurch outside of Atlanta. And Black Spin is reporting that at least 30 other young men are considering a lawsuit against the preacher for the same charges.

This sudden surge in men claiming he took advantage of his position to sexually coerce them is making it harder and harder for many to support him. Already, there has been a backlash in the African American Christian community, and within his own congregation.

He’s only getting what he deserves. It’s time for all of GA and the U.S. to be cleansed of these “c”hristian hate mongers who have turned Christianity into something even Jesus wouldn’t recognize were he to return to earth today. As a mainstream Christian, I am sick, sick, sick of all of them from Phylis Schafly at the top of the whacko religious food chain to Bishop Long at the bottom down here in GA.
