Fire Set at Oregon Bomb Plotter’s Islamic Center

November 28, 2010

(ChattahBox US News)— The Islamic center frequented by the Somali-American teen charged with plotting to blow up a car bomb at a Portland, Oregon tree lighting ceremony, was set on fire early Sunday morning. Investigators ruled the fire arson. Bombing suspect Mohamed Osman Mohamud was known to attend services at the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center in Corvallis a couple of times a month, as an Oregon State University student.

The Oregonian reports:

“A fire reported early this morning at the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center in Corvallis where Portland bomb plot suspect Mohamed Osman Mohamud sometimes attended is being called arson.

“The fire was reported at about 2:15 a.m. today. Corvallis Fire Department spokeswoman Carla Pusateri said the fire was intentionally set, but would not say what led investigators to the conclusion.”

The fire was minor and was put out quickly, damaging just one room in the Islamic center.

Mohamud was given fake bomb material by an undercover FBI agent. He was taken into custody, after dialing his cell phone to blow up a van packed with what he though was a real bomb, at a busy Portland square.

“I want whoever is attending that event to leave, to leave either dead or injured,” said Mohamud, according to the FBI affidavit.

Attacking the Islamic Center because one person who dropped in “a couple of times a month” was a homocidal nutcase makes no more sense than blowing up a daycare center in Oklahoma City because it happened to be in the same building with Federal offices (or interring all Japanese-Americans because the Japanese Navy bombed Pearl Harbor, for that matter).

I am ashamed of the level of ignorance displayed by the rednecks roaming free in America.
