Pawlenty’s Presidential Roll-Out: Action Hero Adored by Fake Minorities (Video)

March 22, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)—The bland former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R), who wants to bring back DADT, is ready to “restore America.”  Pawlenty, yesterday, announced the formation of a presidential exploratory Committee. The first of the group of Republican hopefuls to do so. But what’s getting all of the attention, and not in a good way, is Pawlenty’s over-the-top YouTube video accompanying his announcement. Pawlenty is portrayed as some sort of Midwestern action hero, complete with images of fighter jets and U.S. Marines. But hilariously, Pawlenty’s vast travels crisscrossing the country as a little known corn-pone patriot, didn’t include meeting with people of color. But there is an easy fix for that: stock images of minorities.

The Atlantic’s Chris Good was the first to notice that Pawlenty is seen in his presidential video shaking hands with lots of white people. In the video, Pawlenty says he spent the past year visiting “nearly every state in the country.” But he apparently just met with white people. The precious few still images of minorities, were purchased from Getty stock footage.

As for the rest of the mockable Hollywood-style action video, the Political Animal’s Steve Benen came up with the best snark:

“Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) unveiled the latest in a series of overwrought, overdramatic videos yesterday afternoon, with hand-held shots and ham-fisted music befitting a Michael Bay action flick circa 1997. We see flags, fighter jets, churches, Marines, and Reagan.”

“I was almost disappointed when I realized, after two minutes, we did not see Nicolas Cage killing anyone with his bare hands. It’s an oversight I’m sure Pawlenty’s team will correct next time — this was, after all, only the exploratory launch. The actual launch will come later, and the sequels tend to have bigger explosions.”

    “Some call me… Tim?”

Seriously, does this clown really think he stands a chance of getting elected?

I follow MN politics through the MN Independent blog, and from what I can tell thus far, Pawlenty wouldn’t carry MN, the state in which he was governor!
