Over 200 Dead, 28 Rescued After Typhoon Hits Philippines

The official death toll from the typhoon which rocked the Philippines over the weekend has now reached 229.  Thus far, 28 people have been rescued from a Philippine ferry which sunk in the typhoon.  ..Washington (ChattahBox) – The official death toll from the typhoon which rocked the Philippines over the weekend has now reached 229. The 28 rescued survivors had apparently been floating in the water for over 24 hours before they were rescued.

The Red Cross along with disaster relief authorities have been working around the clock as of Sunday night.

The Princess of the Star passenger ferry sunk in the typhoon with 749 passengers.

Rescue workers are trying to reach any survivors they can.

The ferry left Manila for Cebu on Friday and hit rough seas on Saturday.

There have been 229 confirmed deaths, but this number is likely to increase as over 700 are still missing.
