Barbara Hogan took over for Manto Tshabalala-Msimang as the South African Health Minister after he resigned roughly a month ago.

She recently spoke to make the urging message clear at the International AIDS Vaccine Conference in Cape Town.

Since taking on her new role, she is pushing once again for a global effort to develop an HIV vaccine.

She is in full support of the idea that HIV leads to AIDS, which her predecessor did not believe.

On top of that, she also wants to push current medicines to treat HIV/AIDS as well.

There are over 5.5 million South African people suffering because of a lack of a vaccine.
