Tamil Tiger Officially Announce Leader’s Death

May 24, 2009

Sri Lanka (ChattahBox) – After maintaining a plea of ignorance in the death of their leader, the rebel group the Tamil Tigers have finally admitted that their leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran, died in the conflict with Sri Lankan military last week, the BBC has reported.

Officials have said that Prabhakaran was killed on May 17, after a series of attacked by the Tamil Tigers left many within the region attempting to flee before violence escalated. But the rebel group refused to admit their leaders death, until an official statement this morning announced that Prabhakaran has “reached martyrdom”.

The Tamil Tigers have now vowed to usher in a new era of non-violent protest, though whether this happens remains to be seen.
