Man Accused Of Drowning Wife on Honeymoon Dive – Sentenced To 1 Year!!

June 5, 2009

Australia (ChattahBox) – Despite hearing from witnesses that a struggle was involved, and despite having expressed disbelief in the story themselves, Australian courts have reduced the charges in the highly publicized case of a man accused of killing his wife while diving to manslaughter.

In addition, David Gabriel Watson will only serve a year of the 4 ½ year sentence.

The verdict has caused outrage all over the United States and Australia, especially with the family of Christina Mae Watson, who died by drowning during her honeymoon.  Christina, from Birmingham, Alabama, died in 2003 as the couple dove off the tropical coast of Queensland.

According to a witness, David Watson was seen ‘bear-hugging’ his tiny wife, before she sank to the bottom of the ocean. Her husband, who was trained to rescue divers in trouble, bolted to the surface.

Authorities believe that he did so deliberately, killing her for her small life insurance policy.  David claimed he decided to go for help rather than attempt a rescue himself. Prosecutor Brendan Campbell told the court told the court the manslaughter plea was accepted on the basis that Watson had failed in his duty as her dive buddy by not giving her emergency oxygen.

“I’m sure that the entire Australian nation as well as our country back home shares in the shock at what we’ve just seen, because it’s a total injustice. It’s ludicrous,” her father, Tommy Thomas, was quoted in the Daily Mail.

Watson has since remarried, and been remanded to serve his sentence.

Unfortunately not that surprising. There was a 4 yr old girl raped here and the animal walked free after 18 months waiting to be sentenced:

the judge should be removed-i wonder if someone murder his daughter would he feel it just to give that man 1 year—
Watson is a trained scuba rescuer/instructer-thats his job but he didn’t know how to save his wife-some one he loved-goes to show he didn’t love her just wanted the money(which he supposedly tried to collect after her death)or he would have fought with his life to save her-why didn’t he release her oxygen tank so she would be lighter and share his air with her as he pulled her up-instead of just leaving her with the extra weight and letting her fall deeper.
i think ive hear of small drug charges with more jail time than this-and is there any way the sentence can be reversed and have the judge step down-or change the law so this can’t happen again.

It baffles me that this piece of trash has a new wife and she is “standing” behind him.
    What’s up with that?

Sounds like Drew Peterson sydrome. ( accused of murdering his 2nd wife and his third wife has disappeared. He too, is engaged to some dim wit now)
What is the matter with these women?
