Colombian president has H1N1 swine flu

August 31, 2009

(ChattahBox)– In a reminder that this soon approaching flu season might be a little different then those of the recent past, President Álvaro Uribe has contracted the H1N1 swine flu virus. Officials are contacting other South American governments whose leaders attended a summit last week with Uribe. Costa Rica’s president, Óscar Arias, was the first known head of government to have caught the swine flu.  Swine flu has infected well over 1 million people in the United States, and is now the CDC’s No. 1 priority.  The World Health Organization predicts a third of the world’s population will eventually be infected.

The US government is attempting to launch it’s largest vaccination program in history, ahead of another, potentially more deadly, outbreak of the virus this fall. A recently released study by White House science advisers predict that the swine flu pandemic could infect half the U.S. population this year and cause 90,000 deaths, which is more than twice the number of deaths resulting from complications of the regular seasonal flu. And hospitals could be besieged with nearly 1.8 million patients needing more specialized care. The H1N1 swine flu vaccine is expected to become readily available by mid-October.

There is a commercially available antimicrobial called Microcyn Technology, which I believe can help prevent the spread of H1N1. Sprayed on hands and face (totally non-toxic) as well as applied into the nostrils, it will kill H1N1 rapidly and help prevent incubation. Independent lab testing has shown it highly effective in eradicating the swine flu virus: http://ir.oculusis.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=391670
