Plane Hijacking In Mexico Ends Without Incident As Suspect(s) Arrested

September 9, 2009

Mexico (ChattahBox) – A hijacking of a Boeing 747 has ended peacefully after the 104 passengers and crew on the planes were let off the aircraft, and the hijackers were arrested.

Varying reports have said that 5 to 7 suspects were arrested, after they threatened to blow up the plane unless they were allowed to speak to Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

The suspects are believed to have been either Bolivian or Colombian, and hijacked the plane shortly after taking off from Cancun.

“We were scared, but it seemed like things got under control when we came down. We were immediately surrounded when we landed by federal police,” a passenger told CNN.

They were reportedly held in silence for 45 minutes, with the hijackers refusing to speak to anyone.

The reasons for the hijacking have not been released, but the fact that the suspects wished to speak to President Calderon makes it seem likely that the motive was political.

No one was hurt.

even if they crashed the plane into a stadium full of people it wouldn’t rival the amount of deaths caused by drug overdoeses and brutal columbian/US/Mexican/Honduran repression.
