Top Terrorist Killed in Somalia

September 15, 2009

(ChattahBox) — U.S. special forces reportedly gunned down al Qaeda commander Saleh Ali Nabhan, a leader of Somalia’s al Shabab organization, which works closely with al Qaeda. Nabhan, 30, who has long been on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Most Wanted list, lead attacks on a hotel and an Israeli airliner in Kenya in 2002. Authorities in Kenya also regard him as a suspect in two attacks on US embassies in the region in 1998.

Nabhan was traveling by car south of Mogadishu near Baraawe, when at least two U.S. helicopters opened fire on his vehicle, killing him with at least two others wounded and captured. The Barawe area is controlled by the insurgent group al-Shabab, which is fighting to topple the Somali government. The Pentagon and White House declined to comment on Nabhan’s death.
