(ChattahBox) — Indonesia’s national police chief has announced that the country’s most wanted Islamic militant, Noordin Mohammad Top, was killed in an early morning raid and shoot-out Thursday in central Java.  Top the alleged mastermind of bombings in Bali and Jakarta that killed almost 300 Indonesians was identified via fingerprints, among four people who died when police raided a house in Solo, a stronghold of Islamic radicals.

Police initially thought they had killed Top during raids last month in Central Java, but forensic tests later identified the body as that of a suspected accomplice.  Top, a former accountant and maths teacher, now an explosives expert was suspected of involvement in every major anti-Western attack in Indonesia since 2002.  According to Wikipedia, Noordin was thought to have masterminded the 2003 JW Marriott hotel bombing in Jakarta, the 2004 Australian embassy bombing in Jakarta, the 2005 Bali bombings and the 2009 JW Marriott – Ritz-Carlton bombings, and that he may have assisted in the 2002 Bali Bombings.
