Co-Workers Called Cops on Drunk United Airlines Pilot

November 11, 2009

(ChattahBox)—A Boeing 767 aircraft was scheduled to leave London’s Heathrow Airport for Chicago with 124 passengers and 11 crew on board. The United Airlines pilot assigned to the flight was drunk and apparently still intended to sit at the controls of the plane. But his alarmed co-workers called the police to stop the inebriated pilot from putting the lives of the passengers and crew at risk.

The pilot, Erwin Vermont Washington, 51, of Lakewood, Colorado was arrested on suspicion of being impaired. He was later charged with exceeding the proscribed alcohol limit and released on bail.

The unsuspecting passengers and crew bound for Chicago certainly had a close call.

Washington is due in court next week.
