Palestinians To Appeal To The UN For Support Of Independant State

November 15, 2009

Palestine (ChattahBox) – Officials have said that they plan to seek out an endorsement from the United Nations for a Palestinian state, amidst growing cynicism over Israel-Palestine negotiations.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has been fighting for a halt to West Bank settlements, but negotiations have not resumed since December.

With Israel making demands before agreeing to begin talks again, the Palestinians are said to be losing faith in any willingness from Israel’s end to continue talks.

However, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak spoke to the Israeli Cabinet this morning, urging them to begin negotiations again amidst fears of outside support for a fully independent Palestinian state.

In the meantime, the Palestinians are set to begin speaking to various political powers, such as the United States, before deciding to move for a UN endorsement.
