Italian Police Make Major Counterfeit Siezure

February 14, 2010

Italy (ChattahBox) – Police in Italy have seized a stunning 551,000 tons worth of counterfeit goods in one of the most recent of a number of seizures of fake designer items.

The items uncovered were mostly clothing items and leather goods, all in incredibly high quality.

Authorities believe they were coming from Asia, and that they were to be given designer labels before being sold throughout Italy.

Police have not arrested anyone, nor have they announced any suspects in the case.

The counterfeiting industry is a $9.4 billion annual market, with knockoffs becoming more and more elaborate and well done.

Online markets have over the years become home to these counterfeits, being sold to both knowing and ignorant consumers.
