Belgium to Ban Burqa Shrouds: Affront to Liberal Society

April 1, 2010

(ChattahBox)—-Beating French President Nicolas Sarkozy to the punch, Belgian moved towards final passage of a nationwide law banning the wearing of the burqa and niqab in public, which are head-to-toe Muslin veils. Members of a Brussels parliament panel, voted to ban the Muslim coverings, as an affront to “an open, liberal, tolerant society.”

France has been considering the banning of the burqa and niqab shrouds for several months. In addition, Sarkozy recently called for a law outlawing them, saying the coverings are “contrary to the dignity of women.” The Netherlands is also pursuing a burqa ban, with one politician warning of the “Islamification” of Dutch society.

But Belgium would be the first European country to officially ban the burqa.

Daniel Bacquelaine, the Belgium MP who proposed the bill, said: “We cannot allow someone to claim the right to look at others without being seen.” “It is necessary that the law forbids the wearing of clothes that totally mask and enclose an individual. Wearing the burqa in public is not compatible with an open, liberal, tolerant society,” he added.

According to the report in the Guardian the proposed law would impose fines or imprisonment for public burqa violations:

“Under the proposals a fine or punishment of up to seven days in prison would be imposed for wearing the full-body burqa or face-masking niqab. The bill, to be debated next month, states that anyone in a public place “with face covered or disguised in whole or in part to the extent that she cannot be identified” is liable to incur the penalties.”

The burqa ban would take effect sometime in the summer.

I’m never a fan of restricting freedoms or rights, but what GOOD reason do these people have to WEAR these kinds of clothes? And I don’t want to hear any religious nonsense. Oh wait, that WAS their reason. Initially I was appalled by such a ban, but upon further intelligent critical thinking, this kind of ban would help prevent these often-extremist and always fundamentalist Muslims from carrying concealed weapons or explosives as easily. Of course, the same extremists will now target Belgium for singling them out in this way. Now if only there was a way the world could limit their fecundistic breeding by popping out 5-10 kids per wife. I guess the only way to SPREAD their faith is through population growth. Not trying to sound prejudiced, but these people make up 70-80% of the world’s suicidal terrorists and pose a threat to the ways of life of everyone that doesn’t believe in their world views. If you aren’t a Muslim that spreads hate and ignorance, don’t be offended, I’m not talking about you.
