Diplomat To Pakistan Arrested on Charges Of Spying In India

April 27, 2010

India (ChattahBox) – Indian officials have arrested a diplomat after claiming she handed over top secret documents to Pakistan’s ISI intelligence agency.

Madhuri Gupta is a 53-year-old second secretary in the high commission, and was there on a work trip when she was arrested in Delhi.

She had been working in the Islamabad agency, where officials claim she obtained highly classified documents, which she handed over to ISI agents.

She was then believed to have been summoned to Delhi, where she was arrested as a spy.

“We have reasons to believe an official in the Indian high commission in Pakistan has been passing information to Pakistani intelligence officials,” a spokesman for India’s external affairs ministry said of the arrest, which occurred four days ago.

Pakistan has not responded to the claims.
