Online Letter To Pope From Women Claiming Relationships With Priests

May 28, 2010

Italy (ChattahBox) – An open letter posted by forty women online to the Pope has called for an end to celibacy, claiming to have ongoing relationships with priests, and speaking of their need for love.

The forty Italian women all claimed to have had some kind of relationship with a priest, many of them sexual and long lasting.

Almost all kept their names confidential due to the sensitivity of the issue, and fear of reprisals for the men involved, but three offered their names.

The letter calls for understanding, and states that priests are men who need love and companionship like any other.

It is the latest in a string of calls for the end of celibacy in the Catholic Church, among rising claims of rampant sexual abuse against children.
