July 1, 2010

Africa (ChattahBox) – Yussuf Munyakazi, a 75-year-old father of 13, has been sentenced to 25-years in prison for his part in the slaughter of innocent Tutsis who had sought sanctuary in Catholic churches during the Rwanda genocide in 1994.

According to eyewitnesses at the trial, Munyakazi led a group of rebels into the Shangi parish on April 29, 1994, where thousands of people were slaughtered.

The brutal attack left at least 5,000 dead, as part of the horrifying genocide that is believed to have led up to 800,000 people slaughtered.

An official for Munyakazi has said he will be appealing the decision, the Telegraph has reported.
