BP Reports Oil Has Been Stopped From Leaking Into the Gulf of Mexico

July 15, 2010

(ChattahBox) – BP says that it has fully contained the oil leak via the newly placed containment cap, and that oil is not leaking into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time since April.  BP slowly cut off the flow over the course of Thursday, and engineers finally closed the choke line, the final seal of the well this afternoon.  Engineers and scientists will now examine the results of the pressure tests every six hours to determine the pressure levels.   BP is also drilling two relief wells, intended to provide a definitive plug to the ruptured well, but that solution isn’t expected until mid-August at best. In an unrelated issue to the spill, but illustrating the building anger building toward the global energy company headquartered in London, United Kingdom, BP confirmed on Thursday that it had lobbied the U.K. government over the prisoner transfer of Lockerbie bomber, Abdel Baset al-Megrahi. to Libya in late 2007.
